Paris Syndrome is a form of mania specific to foreign tourists who are seeing—and fast becoming disillusioned with—the city of Paris for the very first time. The city is so famous and iconic that strangers become inconsolably depressed when it fails to meet expectation. Finding Paris, the real Paris, then becomes a matter of deprogramming and rediscovery. This is the project of Luis Alejandro Cuéllar. The fashion photographer and Colombian transplant takes to the streets in order to uncover the city’s evasive, daily life.

‘Stepping out of my door into the streets feels like diving into a dim river,
I never know what I´m going to find under the mighty waters of concrete,
Light is the beacon that guides my walks around Paris
My eyes are compasses to lead my way.’
